1 Preparing the surface

Preparing the surface

Make sure the surface is flat, clean and dry.

Hard surfaces (bitumen, concrete, wood,…):

  • Remove all refuse and dust.
  • Fill any holes or cracks.
  • Apply an cushioning layer (8mm thick) to even out any imperfections.

Soft surfaces (earth, lawn,...):

  • Level the surface and remove all vegetation

2 Installing DOMO Leisure Grass

Hard surfaces:

Attach non or semi-filled varieties using a dual composite PU adhesive. Then apply heavy, continuous pressure for
30 minutes. Filled varieties can be installed on asphalt or concrete without adhesive.

Soft surfaces:

Remove the top layer to a depth of approx. 10 cm.
Apply an equalising layer of earth. Replace this earth with a layer of other material if required:

  • a layer of stabilized sand of 10 cm. Given the risk of cracking in winter, this solution is not recommended for areas exposed to excessive frost.
  • a layer of sand and compacting fines aggregate of about 10 cm (mixture of earth and grit). This ensures easy compacting and superior drainage.
  • a layer of crushed granite or lava (grain: 0 to 5 mm).

Level the surface with a compactor until completely stable and even. Cover with non-woven geotextile (100 to 150 g/m2).

This fabric:

  • inhibits the growth of weeds,
  • ensures a better distribution of pressure throughout the structure,
  • protects the fibres of the artificial grass.

3 Positioning DOMO Leisure Grass

Unroll the artificial grass rolls over the geotextile in the same direction. Once unrolled, fold

Using a Stanley knife, cut the carpet from the back in-between the loops.

If several rolls are needed, overlap subsequent rolls by approx. 3 cm. Finish the ends with a knife, making sure to cut through both layers. The join should not be wider than 5 mm for filled varieties or 2 mm for non-filled varieties.

4 Applying the glue

Mix the two glue components. Turn over the edges at a width of approx. 50 cm in order to apply a 30 cm wide, thin layer (200 to 300 g/m2) of Forbo KR Nahtband glue to the back.

Fold down the edges carefully to prevent the fibres from coming into contact with the glue,

then apply pressure to the edges using your feet or a heavy object. Do not glue at temperatures below 0°C or when wet.

5 Fixing the edges

Filled qualities:

It is not necessary to fix the edges. Simply cover with a 1 cm layer of silica sand (roundness: min. 80%; grain: between 0.4 mm and 1.0 mm). Make sure the sand is dry to prevent sticking to the grass. The carpet can also be fixed with adhesive tape along the edge to a width of 5 cm.

Non-filled qualities:

Fix the edges of the carpet with a treated wood skirting board or use a beam on which you fix the rolls of grass.

6 Caring for your artificial turf

Remove dead leaves and other refuse with a rake, broom or blower. Sweep with a stiff brush to straighten the fibres. For filled varieties, add sand as required.

Pull out any weeds by hand, the moment they appear.

Immediately repair edges if they become detached.

Remove stubborn stains with a brush using a 3% ammonia solution, apply ethyl chloride to grease
stains and preferably a mix of water and vinegar for organic stains.
